• We know that a number of students are having difficulty access KPRs network and Edsby.  If your child is having trouble accessing Edsby because they forget their username or password please use the following link to access this information. https://studentcreds.kprdsb.ca  You will need the PIN number that was sent to you via email from KPRDSB.  If you do not have a PIN number or are still having issues accessing Edsby please call 1- 877-741-4577 Ex 3001
• Due to a large number of additional students added to the Virtual High School over the weekend we had to add a significant number of new classes.  This required us to reschedule all students.  What this means is that some students will have a different timetable and teacher.  These changes will be reflected in Edsby on Wednesday Morning. 
• Formal classes will not start until Friday, September 18^th.  Students in Grade 11 and 12 will have had contact from a VHS teacher asking them to familiarize themselves with D2L our Learning Management System.  Teachers with students in grade 10 will reach out to students on Wednesday and teachers with students in grade 9 will reach out to students on Thursday.

Update

VHS is currently experiencing an extremely high volume of phone messages and emails. We are responding as quickly as we can, and we understand that your concerns are pressing.

Please know that students have not missed any content in courses to date. Our first day of classes is Friday September 18^th. Teachers also understand that many students still do not have completed timetables and will be accommodating students who join late.

Timetables: This week we had to add several new classes in order to accommodate the large number of registrations that came in last week. This meant that we had to reshuffle everyone’s timetable. Some students who had a complete timetable may now find that they have a conflict. If this is the case, please fill out the following form https://forms.gle/TLkD74cayh79BzTt7 and a guidance counsellor will follow-up (please do not submit more than one form, we will get to you!).

In Edsby you will only see first quadmester classes (period one and two). Edsby only refreshes every 24 hours.  Changes made today will appear tomorrow.   In order to see all assigned classes for the year please click on this link https://classlookup.kprdsb.ca  This link will be refreshed every 12 hours. 

Logging into Edsby: We are also hearing that many students and parents are having trouble logging into Edsby.  Please go to https://studentcreds.kprdsb.ca/ and enter your child’s OEN. If you are still having trouble logging in please contact the Help Desk at 1-877-741-4577 Ex 3001. If the voice mailbox is full, please continue to try again (we are answering messages).

OEN Numbers: Can be found at the top of any previous report card.

Hearing from Teachers: Period one teachers will reach out to students through Edsby with course start up information. If a student was recently added to a class, they should Edsby message their teacher as they will not show in the class list until the following day.

Requests for Technology: If you do not have a device in the home for your child to use, please contact kpr_technology@kprdsb.ca

Returning to Your Home School: If you are wanting to return to your home school immediately, please contact them ASAP to see if they have room in courses.  If you wish to return later in the year, it is advised that you let your home school know in order for them to plan accordingly.

New Registrations: We are currently not accepting new students for quadmester one as our courses are full. Due dates for registering for quadmester two will be posted on our Website in October.

Update:

Students under the age of 18 are required by law to attend school. Students over the age of 18 who register to attend school have made a commitment to attend classes and to actively pursue their studies. Attendance in all classes is critical to student success and achievement

We expect an absent student to have a parent/guardian use the Parent Portal student absence reporting system, on or before the date of the absence, to explain the reason for the absence.

At the Virtual High School (VHS) we are taking attendance for synchronous lessons. 

To report an absence a parent/guardian can:

• Download the SchoolMessenger mobile app on your Android or iOS device and enter the absence
• Log into the Parent Portal website at studentabsence.kprdsb.ca
• Call toll-free 1-844-434-8119

Parents wishing to transfer their student to the Kawartha Pine Ridge Virtual High School (KPRVHS) must contact their home school guidance department.  Parents should also contact guidance to request a transfer from KPRVHS to their homeschool. 

Parents requesting a transfer to KPRVHS should be aware that;

• Students will no longer have a timetable at their home school and course availability may change if the student chooses to return later in the school year.   The student will be registered with the VHS and no longer registered at their home school.
• KPRVHS does not offer all the courses that a regular high school offers so it may not be possible to match courses.
  
  
• KPRVHS is not able to offer specialized programs such as International Baccalaureate (IB) and Skilled Trades related courses.
  
  
• Students are required to participate in a minimum of 225 minutes of daily scheduled synchronous learning between the hours of 8:30 am and 2:30 pm.

Requests to transfer will be considered up to October 30^th so that appropriate staffing can be put in place to support the changes in enrolment.  Quadmester two starts on November 23^rd.

Midterm Results

Transfers to & from Virtual High School

Regardless of what happens with possible extended school closure, KPR is continuing to plan for families who wish to transfer their teens between their regular high schools and KPR’s Virtual High School. The next opportunity to change learning modes will be for the third quadmester, which begins Tuesday, February 2.

Families wishing to transfer their teen into, or out of, virtual learning must contact their home school guidance counselor by Friday, January 15, 2021.

KPR reminds families that our physical high schools offer a comprehensive and varied program that meets the needs of all students.
